Chula Rusinga Biodiversity Project
A catalyst for community initiatives to improve the quality of life for children and the whole of the Rusinga Island community
Who Are We
Chula Rusinga Biodiversity Project is a community based organization that has been at the forefront of combating and mitigating the catastrophic impacts of climate change.
The project uses a permaculture approach to enhance forest cover and combat desertification - helping to maximize carbon capture.
As well as their permaculture action, the organization run other, austere projects with the vision of enhancing the livelihoods of poverty stricken and destitute households.
It is vital humans do all they can to conserve the environment, stopping the loss of species and preventing ecosystem collapses from pollution and other harmful activities.
Chula Rusinga Biodiversity Project works in partnership with other stakeholders including: relevant government ministries, NGO’s, learning institutions, health institutions and youths & women groups in various sub locations.
Public Outreach Model
Working Towards a Better Tomorrow
Community participation is a key tool in proper project planning and development.
The project will host annual events including workshops on conservation, STEM, the role of aviation in conservation actions, citizen science and Biomimicry.
The project is built upon the tenets of Participatory Learning Actions (PLA). Schools and members of the community will participate as principal agents of conservation.
The rationale behind the application of PLA in strategy design in environmental conservation lies in the fact that the approach helps to:
Overcome biases, stereotypes, prejudices, professional bondage and apathy,
Offset development tourism and roadside analysis
Overcome hypothetical planning
Lay foundation for sustainability
Build capacity for participation
Promote learning and broaden impact
Above all it creates a sense of ownership and brings about sustainability
The project is expected to promote environmental awareness in the community. Helping to create positive attitudes towards maintaining a clean environment and healthy flora & fauna.
Our Philosophies
· Promote environmental conservation through tree planting
· Engage in regular school outreach clean up activities

· Protect the forests and wildlife on Rusinga island
We envisage a community that is empowered to actively participate in promoting the healthy development of children by recognizing their role as key contributors to the social and economic growth of the nation.
We believe in putting community in the lead, to create local solutions to development issues that deny vulnerable people an equal opportunity to thrive in life.
"Conservation is the action of common sense to common problems for common good."
